2020 Recipients
Louisa Daley
Louisa Daley was inducted into the Order of Athabasca University in recognition and celebration of her commitment to lifelong learning. Ms. Daley has been faithfully incorporating post-secondary learning into her life for the past 36 years, with Athabasca University’s support. As AU’s oldest student, Ms. Daley is currently 96 years old.
She began her post-secondary studies at the age of 53 and has earned two degrees from Athabasca University—a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1999, and a Bachelor of General Studies degree in 2017. She began her studies in the Master of Arts Interdisciplinary Studies program but has since come to the difficult decision to discontinue her studies. Ms. Daley exemplifies what it means to be a lifelong learner and approaches life by looking forward and living each day with gratitude. We celebrate her passion, commitment, and persistence. She is truly a role model for our learners and an inspiration for us all.
Douglas Schindel
Douglas (Doug) Schindel was inducted into the Order of Athabasca University in recognition of his outstanding dedication to Athabasca University during his two terms as the alumnus member on the Board of Governors. Mr. Schindel is a graduate of the Athabasca University Executive Master of Business Administration Program (2005) and is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award (2011).
He served as the alumnus member on the Board of Governors from November 2013 to February 2020, contributing countless volunteer hours in support of the success of Athabasca University. He provided wise counsel both from the perspective of a business leader and as a student, and always acted in the best interests of the university.
