Evolving the understanding of our world and the people in it.

Our faculty’s research covers a broad range of topics, from community transformation and consumerism to digital communication and virtual worlds. Many of our researchers are recognized nationally and internationally and their work is shared widely.

We are also a partner in the Canadian Institute of Distance Education Research, (CIDER). CIDER sponsors professional development activities that increase the quantity and quality of distance education research.

Research chairs

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently home to 3 research chairs:

  • the Canada Research Chair in Community, Identity and Digital Media
  • the UNESCO/ICDE Chairholder in Open Educational Resources
  • the Commonwealth of Learning Chairholder in Emerging Technologies in Open and Distance Learning
