Athabasca University undergraduate business courses are recognized by a number of professional associations. Graduate-level professional development opportunities are also available through our Leadership and Management Development (LMD) courses.

The following organizations accept AU courses.

Association of Administrative Professionals (AAP)

The Faculty of Business offers a variety of courses that fulfil the Canadian Certified Administrative Professional program requirements.

Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC)/University of British Columbia (UBC) Real Estate

AU courses can meet the 36 credits required in general and core business/commerce topics for the UBC/AIC Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation. See the course equivalency matrix.

Chartered Financial Analyst Institute

Human Resources Professionals Association (CHRP/HRPA)

The HRPA (Human Resources Professionals Association) is the HR professional association in Ontario. AU courses may be used to fulfil the coursework requirement for the HRPA’s Certified Human Resources Professional designation. See HRPA’s coursework requirements.

Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (CIFP)

The Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (CIFB) offers a Certified Financial Planner™ program leading to the internationally recognized CFB™ designation. Some of these courses are transferable to the Bachelor of Management or Bachelor of Commerce programs.

The Canadian Management Institute (CIM)

The Canadian Management Institute (CIM) accepts AU courses toward the completion of the Chartered Management Program (CMP) that can lead to the Certified in Management or Chartered Manager professional designations. See the academic requirements for the CMP.

Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) 

The Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) awards the CORS Diploma to students who have completed a program of studies with significant content in Operations Management. Learn more about the academic requirements and application info.

Canadian Payroll Association

The Canadian Payroll Association accepts AU courses to meet some of the requirements for its Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation.

Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP)

The Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) is an executive development program offered by universities across Canada in partnership with the Insurance Institute. To gain entrance into the FCIP designation program, students must first graduate from the CIP program. For further details, including eligibility, please contact the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Supply Chain Management Association (SCMP)

Members of Supply Chain Canada with a business-related AU diploma or degree are eligible to apply for the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation program. Those who complete our online MBA program will receive block credit towards certain SCMP courses.

Society of Actuaries (SOA)

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) has three designations: Associate of the Society of Actuaries, Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst, and Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Some Faculty of Business courses in economics, finance, and management science can be used toward the education requirements of SOA’s designations.

Blue Seal certificate

AU is an approved provider of online courses for Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training’s Achievement in Business Competencies (Blue Seal) program. Learn how to get your Blue Seal through AU.

AU’s Leadership and Management Development courses provide online graduate-level professional development. These courses are aimed at managers and professionals with significant work experience. We offer scheduled courses for individuals and custom-tailored solutions for organizations.
