The AU Faculty of Science and TechnologyRAIC Centre for Architecture

Canada’s first online architectural programs

The RAIC Centre for Architecture at Athabasca University was founded in 2012 as a partnership between the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and Athabasca University to explore alternative and innovative means of educating architects in the 21st Century.

The centre delivers 2 credentials: a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Graduate Diploma in Architecture. These 2 programs are completely virtual, including the design studios, and they represent Canada’s first and only online program of architectural education. With over 500 students enrolled in the BSc Arch, the program is now one of the largest undergraduate programs in the country.

In addition, the centre delivers the academic courses associated with the RAIC’s Syllabus program.

Over the past decade, the centre has pioneered innovations ranging from virtual design studios to microcredentials to global studios with participants from around the world. It has also developed a robust research program that focuses on cutting edge work in regenerative design and virtual design.

Graduates of our Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Graduate Diploma in Architecture programs will be able to put their skills to work in urban and construction planning and design, as well as studies of the built environment.
