Schedule of counselling courses

GCAP courses are offered on a paced schedule with fixed start and end dates. The courses scheduled to be offered in each semester are listed below. As you plan your program, please be mindful of the following:

• GCAP 631, 632, 633, 634, 635, and 671 are prerequisites for your practicum placement and GCAP 681. These courses must be completed no later than the Spring term immediately before the Fall start of your practicum.
• The Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Master of Counselling programs are outcome-based, with competencies that build progressively in a planned sequence of courses. Many courses have prerequisites. Therefore, you should review the course syllabi to ensure that you have the required prerequisites.
• You must register for courses during the applicable registration window (see Academic Calendar for dates). This will permit us to make decisions about instructor contracts, course materials, and course cancellations in the event of low enrollment.
• The Faculty of Health Disciplines has introduced three new graduate-level Nursing, Health Studies and Counselling Psychology (NHCP) courses.

Starting Spring 2025, the new NHCP 712 Advanced Qualitative Research replaces all prior qualitative research courses ( NURS 712, MHST 712, and GCAP 693). The new NHCP 713 Advanced Quantitative Research replaces all prior quantitative research courses ( NURS 713, MHST 713, and GCAP 692). The registration window is February 1-15, 2025, for the new courses only. All other FHD Graduate course registration will be available from January 15-February 15^th.

Starting Fall 2025, the new NHCP 719 Thesis I replaces all prior Thesis I courses ( NURS 719, MHST 719, and GCAP 696). All learners who need the advanced research or Thesis I courses will now register as Nursing, Health Studies and Counselling Psychology (NHCP) regardless of their FHD graduate program.
