Become a practicum organization or supervisor

Practicum sites and supervisors/supervisor are important in training our students and contributing to the counselling profession.

If you would like to mentor a masters-level student through their applied practice, we welcome you. Please review our practicum information for students for an overview of expectations and definitions, including required supervision hours.

To be considered for Master of Counselling practicum placements, you must meet the criteria to apply.

There is no obligation to accept a practicum student.

We use Typhon to manage and track student, organization, and supervisor information. You will complete your application form through Typhon.

Students cannot complete nor apply on behalf of their proposed supervisor practicum organization (site).

Apply as an organization

To apply as a practicum placement organization, complete the Practicum Organization form.

If approved, your organization will be added to a list of potential practicum sites. You only need to apply once. If any information (e.g., your contact person or address) changes, please contact gcappracticumadmin@athabascau.ca.

Apply as a supervisor

Your organization must be approved before you can apply to become a supervisor.

  1. To check your organization’s status, contact gcappracticumadmin@athabascau.ca.
  2. If your organization is not on the approved list, complete the Practicum Organization form.
  3. Once you have confirmed your organization’s status, complete the Practicum Supervisor form.

Supervisors/supervisor login information will be sent to you from Typhon when you are approved. Please check your junk folder if you don’t see it in your inbox.

You will use Typhon to:

  • maintain your personal profile
  • review and approve student practicum activity logs

We are deeply indebted to all our practicum sites and supervisors. This initiative would not be a success without you.
