Jennifer Knopp-Sihota, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Disciplines at Athabasca University. Jennifer has taught various courses in the Nurse Practitioner graduate program as well as supervised graduate student projects and theses in the Master in Health Studies (MHS) and Master in Nursing (MN) programs.

Jennifer’s research focuses on improving clinical outcomes and quality of care for nursing home residents with dementia. She recently completed an Alzheimer Canada funded pilot project developing a RAI-MDS based pain assessment scale for residents with advanced dementia. Jennifer holds a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grant to further refine and validate this pain scale.

Other research projects focus on solutions for improving nursing home care, including non-pharmacological interventions to reduce dementia related behaviors, deprescribing and polypharmacy, and enriching the work life of caregivers.

Jennifer lives in Edmonton, Alberta with her family and works clinically as a Nurse Practitioner in both acute and primary care.
