Lab exemptions

Full (or partial) exemptions of the lab experiments can be granted upon evaluation of relevant material provided by the student.

Laboratory fees (on-site labs, lab kits, and virtual labs) are mandatory and cannot be waived. These non-refundable fees also apply to students with lab exemptions.

Options

The following are three options of material the can provide evidence of equivalent lab work completed at another institution.

Option A:

  1. Full set of marked lab reports.
  2. A copy of the lab manual or a clear description of each lab experiment completed.

Option B:

  1. A transcript that shows a separate grade for the laboratory component.
  2. A copy of the lab manual or a clear description of each lab experiment completed.

Option C:

A letter or email, from the course professor or the Physics Department of the student’s home institution, which should include:

  1. The course’s name and number at the sending institution.
  2. The year and term at which the equivalent lab work was completed.
  3. The student's mark in the lab component of the equivalent physics course at the sending institution.
  4. The titles of lab experiments completed by the student plus a brief description (one paragraph) of each experiment.

The material is evaluated by the Course Coordinator and a decision is communicated to the student, which may involve denial or approval of (full or partial) lab credit transfer. There is no appeal for this decision, but the student retains the option to do the AU home labs for the respective physics course.
