Dr. Sabine Graf received her PhD degree in Computing and Information Systems from Vienna University of Technology, Austria, in 2007. Afterwards, Dr. Graf was invited to be a Postdoctoral Researcher at National Central University in Taiwan for one year and then was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship to join Athabasca University (AU). In 2009, she became a faculty member of the School of Computing and Information Systems at AU and is now a Full Professor.
Dr. Graf is passionate about teaching and supervising students at all levels (i.e., undergraduate, Master, PhD and postdoc). She has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at AU since over 10 years on topics related to computational intelligence, learning and knowledge analytics, systems analysis and design, software engineering and others. During this time, Dr. Graf created and improved several courses with new and innovative teaching elements and pedagogies.
Dr. Graf is an internationally leading researcher in the area of educational technology. Her research aims at making information systems, especially learning systems, more personalized, intelligent and adaptive, as well as enabling those systems to make use of the huge amounts of collected data to provide decision makers (e.g., students, teachers) with actionable information. Her research expertise includes user adaptive systems, learning/academic analytics, personalization, student modeling, artificial intelligence, and game-based learning. She has secured over $2.1M in research funding from external and internal funding sources. Her research findings were published in more than 130 peer-reviewed journal papers, book chapters, and conference papers which have been cited over 7,000 times and four conference papers were awarded with a best paper award. Dr. Graf has been invited to present her research findings in keynote/invited talks at universities, companies, and conferences around the world. In addition, she has been very active in international conference organization and editorial activities for international journals.
