I graduated with my B.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry in 1977 and worked in a research lab for a year before returning to school. I received my B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering in 1980, and worked as an Engineer, writing reservoir simulators for several years before obtaining my Masters of Engineering in 1988 (Simulation of Ethylene Pyrolysis Quench Cooling Reactions).

After that I went consulting as an engineering computer person and teaching programming part-time at SAIT. I joined SAIT as full-time faculty in Information Technology in 1998 and also became the Computer Technology (CT) coordinator for two years. During that time I was responsible for 1200 full-time students per year and 32 full and part time faculty. I spearheaded and oversaw the change in CT from a C based curriculum to a Java based curriculum and also helped with the roll-out of the TEP (student laptop initiative). While at SAIT I wrote 3 courses – project management, micro assembler and C++.

I joined Athabasca University (AU) in 1999 as a tutor in what is now called SCIS, and became a full-time Academic Coordinator in August 2001. During that time I have written, revised and taught many courses in our graduate and undergraduate program. I have also supervised many students in the graduate program. I have written or completely revised three graduate courses (COMP501, COMP601, COMP695) and several undergraduate courses, most notably COMP206 & COMP306 (C++), COMP 348 (Java Network Programming) and my favorite, COMP444 (Robotics). I most recently did a major revision on COMP268 (Into to Programming – Java).

In 2018 I also became the Undergraduate Program Director (SCIS) for the Faculty of Science, and continue to fulfil and enjoy that position. I am currently serving my second term on the General Faculties Council (GFC) APPSC, and my first term on GFC and GFC Executive. I have been a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) since 1982 with APEGA in Alberta. I am currently registered as a Lifetime APEGA Member. I am an avid SCUBA diver and underwater photographer, glassblower and have built my own glassblowing shop.
