While the UC-HRM is a valuable as a stand-alone professional credential, students may also ladder their studies in HRM into a full university degree. For undergraduate students, the 30 credits credits earned in the Undergraduate Certificate program may be applied to a full undergraduate degree at Athabasca University.

What AU degrees can I ladder University Certificate in Heritage Resources Management into?

In most cases, the HRM-UC will ladder fully into the following programs, providing that students do not have other transfer credit and that students choose further courses appropriately so they meet the requirements of the degree or diploma (students should always speak to a student advisor if they wish to ladder the HRM Certificate into a degree/diploma):

University Diploma in Arts

Bachelor of General Studies (all designations)

All Bachelor of Arts Degrees (3 year) (general or with concentration) Concentrations are: Anthropology, English, French, History, Humanities, Information Systems, Labour Studies, Political Economy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Women’s and Gender Studies

Bachelor of Arts Degree (4 year): Majors are: Anthropology, Canadian Studies, English, French, History, Humanities, Information Systems, Labour Studies, Political Economy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Women’s and Gender Studies

Additionally, the HRM-UC will partially ladder into several other Bachelor's-level degrees at Athabasca University.

I am already in a degree. Can I take University Certificate in Heritage Resources Management courses and earn two credentials at once?

Yes! Students who complete the requirements of the HRM Certificate while enrolled in a degree program may apply to graduate from the certificate without giving up their status as a program student in their degree program.

We strongly recommend that you work with a program advisor to ensure that the courses you complete towards the HRM certificate will fit within the regulations of your degree program. Once you have completed the HRM requirements, all you will need to do is complete our Application to Graduate.

Once we confirm your eligibility to receive the certificate, we will temporarily transfer you to the HRM certificate, award the credential and then return you to the degree regulations you are currently working under. This will all be done behind the scenes and will require no action on your part other than to complete the Application to Graduate.
