Master of Education in Open, Digital, and Distance Education - Course-based route and e-portfolio

Students who pursue the course-based route of the MEd will complete an e-portfolio as their capstone project.

What is an e-portfolio?

E-portfolios are important tools for learning and assessment. They provide a means to foster reflective practice and to document students’ unique “learning journeys.” As the capstone experience in the course-based MEd, the e-portfolio demonstrates students’ acquisition of the core competencies of the program in an integrated and comprehensive manner while exploring their growth as learners and as professionals.

E-portfolios are compiled using a set of web-based knowledge management and reflection tools. They are digital compilations in which ideas, information, arguments, and documents can be expressed in text, graphic, audio, and video formats. E-portfolios can be tagged, searched, archived, and displayed in multiple formats on a wide variety of presentation devices. They are dynamic, flexible, and evolving entities -- creating opportunities for feedback, annotation, and commentary.

Check out some sample e-portfolios from MEd alumni here.

Getting started

MEd students are encouraged to develop their e-portfolio as they progress through their program using the Mahara portfolio e-lab. Use your myAU login information to access Mahara. The E-portfolio Orientation and Development site serves as a resource to support students through the development process. Please contact the DE office for the self-enrollment key.

Completing your e-portfolio

Students in the course-based route will complete their e-portfolio in MDDE 694: Capstone ePortfolio Project.

As the final requirement of their degree, students will be eligible to register in MDDE 694 once they have completed all their core and elective courses, or concurrently with their final course.

Upon successful completion of MDDE 694, students should be ready to graduate. Please see the Graduation page for more information.
