Distance Education - Course information

Grouped Study in Moodle

Courses offered in Distance education are delivered entirely online as grouped study using the Moodle learning management system. Individual learning is supplemented with participation in group learning exercises, forum discussions, and synchronous web conferences. This format provides students with the flexibility to study anywhere, anytime while also nurturing the development of supportive learning communities. To learn more about Moodle, students can explore the Moodle training site.

Courses are offered on a trimester basis: Fall (September – December), Winter (January – April), and Spring (May – July). Each semester is 13 weeks in length. Core courses in the MEd (DE) program are offered every semester but elective course offerings vary. While every student has different strengths, MEd (DE) courses have been designed to require between 10 to 12 hours of course work each week to be successful.

Learning Resources

Learning resources may be provided through the Moodle course site in an electronic format (such as eTexts, digital articles, or online publications) or as printed materials which are mailed to students. In addition, some courses require the use of specific software or have operating system requirements. All costs for learning resources are included in the tuition fee.

Course Access

Login to courses through your myAU account or the Distance education Moodle site, where courses are organized by program and term. All MDDE courses are found in the Distance education Masters Program category.

Students will have limited early access to their courses one week prior to the course start date in order to get started on readings. On the course start date, forums will be become active and instructors will be available.
