Bachelor of Arts, Women's and Gender Studies Major - Barbara Roberts Memorial Award
Purpose
This annual prize recognizes outstanding written work done by an undergraduate student on topics related to women, gender, and feminism.
Recipients of the Barbara Roberts Memorial Award receive a cash award of $750.00.
Procedure
- Eligibility
- Current Athabasca University undergraduate program students are eligible to apply.
- Students are eligible to receive the award one time only
- Criteria
- the essay is a minimum of 2,500 words and a maximum of 7,500 words (excluding footnotes and bibliography)
- the essay is literate
- the essay is imaginative, thoughtful, critical, and well written
- evidence used in the essay is clearly documented
- the author demonstrates an awareness of feminist analysis
- Submission
- The deadline for submissions is April 15th.
- Essays may be submitted by any Athabasca University course tutor or instructor.
- Each submission must include a cover sheet containing the essay title; the course name and number; the name of the course instructor and the instructor's e-mail address; and the student's name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and identification number.
- Each submission must also be accompanied by a completed Student Work Product Use Authorization form.
- Submissions should be in electronic form, double-spaced, and with ample margins.
- Tutors and/or Coordinators should submit the essay along with the completed forms directly to Student Awards: awardsinfo@athabascau.ca.
- Only one submission per student per year will be considered.
Selection committee
The Barbara Roberts Memorial Award committee consists of
- one full-time academic in Women's and Gender Studies
- one full-time academic outside of Women's and Gender Studies
- one tutor in Women's and Gender Studies
