Research assistant – casual position

Trend analysis of the history and future of distance education

Overview

This project will involve desk research of existing literature. After the desk research there may be follow up interviews with key authors and editors.

Specific activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Updating and organizing a database of distance education journals
  • Reviewing DE literature
  • Analyzing, selecting, and using qualitative software for trend analysis of keywords
  • Using and creating graphs (or other data visualization) is preferred but not required
  • Meeting regularly with the Principal Investigator

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Adnan Qayyum of Athabasca University. All meetings and individual and collaborative work will be conducted online.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree or a graduate student with an interest in distance education
  • Familiarity with basic qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Experience with Excel pivot tables is an asset
  • Preference will be given to applicants comfortable with using or quickly learning qualitative software
  • Good communication skills required

There is an opportunity to be co-author of research article in a high-profile education journal.

The duration of this position is for a minimum of a 3-month period, with possibility of extension. The number of weekly hours will vary but equivalent to 10-15 hours per week. Rate of pay commensurate with experience and collective agreement provisions.
