Comparative Study of User-Generated Content in Journalism Schools

Overview

Research assistant to assist with gathering, analyzing and preparing for publication field data related to international comparative study of pedagogical approaches to user-generated content and open-source intelligence in journalism schools in France, UK and Canada.

Specific activities include, but are not limited to

The primary job duties for the field research assistant will include literature reviews, annotated bibliographies, interview scheduling, journalism school curriculum research, interview participation, interview data analysis and summaries, hypertext markup data analysis, drafting of papers for conference presentation and publication, among other responsibilities. Familiarity with coding in Python is an asset.

The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Michael Lithgow at Athabasca University. Dr. Lithgow will provide adequate training for the any skills that will be required and that the candidate does not already have.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in relevant field including Communication Studies, Media and Technology Studies, Journalism, Journalism Studies and Political Science.

Graduate level post-secondary experience (at least one year) in a related discipline, including Communication Studies, Media and Technology in Society, Journalism, Journalism Studies.

Familiarity with literatures related to the use of user-generated content and/or open-source intelligence in professional journalism practices and training.

Experience and/or familiarity with user-generated content, open-source intelligence technologies, coding in Python, international comparative analysis, and data analysis will be considered an asset.
