Artificial Intelligence for Language Teaching and Learning
Role/Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant will be to assist in conducting a study (i.e., literature review, data collection/interviews, data analysis) exploring the ways Artificial intelligence in Education (AIEd) and related technologies are currently being used in the context language learning and adult education. This position will require the Research Assistant to:
- Assist with writing a literature review that involves collecting and synthesizing relevant research from academic journals, databases or websites
- Assist with the development and organization of study documentation, ethics review forms, and resources
- Collect data through online surveys and interviews with study participants
- Co-develop and integrate learning materials into courses
- Regularly meet with the Principal Investigator and/or Research Team
The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Levina Yuen at Athabasca University. Opportunities for professional development, technology training, and research publications will be available. There is also a possibility for an extension or new role on the Research Team.
Qualifications
- Interest in artificial intelligence and its implications for teaching and learning
- Strong communication skills, good judgement, and ability to take initiative
- Proficient writing skills and experience with conducting graduate research studies (preferred)
- Basic knowledge of Moodle/BrightSpace learning management system, MS Office (e.g., Excel) and Google Apps required.
- Familiarity with qualitative/quantitative methods and/or basic programming languages are an asset.
