Maya Seshia is a Political Science scholar specializing in intersectionality and anti-racism theory and practice. She obtained her Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Political Science from the University of Alberta, and Bachelor of Arts (B.A. honours) degree from the University of Winnipeg.
Maya's research on articulations of racism, nation, citizenship and belonging in relation to the 1985 Air India bombings, as well as work on systemic gendered racialized violence in Winnipeg, have been published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. More broadly, Maya’s areas of interest include critical race feminism, anti-colonial theory, critical Canadian Politics, and inner-city organizing and activism. She is constantly learning more about these topics, and is passionate about teaching, critical anti-oppressive pedagogical approaches, the sharing of ideas, and bridging critical theory with action. Maya is honoured and excited to be a part of Athabasca University as an Individualized Study tutor for Poli 357 Political Philosophy: Hobbes to Human Rights.
