Having been called to the Bar of England and Wales, I started my legal career as an advisory lawyer in the UK Government Legal Service. In 1996 I removed to Jersey and joined what was then the Law Draftsman’s Office in 1996. From 2008-2013 I was the Chief Legislative Drafter in the Isle of Man before returning to Jersey. In 2018 I was promoted to head the now-renamed Legislative Drafting Office as its Principal Legislative Drafter.

I am interested in training for both drafters and instructing officers as well as IT for drafting offices. I am a regular contributor to the Jersey and Guernsey Law Review and a Council member of the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel (CALC). In 2018 I organized the first-ever regional conference for the Europe region of CALC, held in Jersey on the theme of Brexit and in 2021 hosted the first ever on line forum for legislation editors and translators. In my spare time I am a volunteer at the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (Jersey Zoo).
