Davina Bhandar is a faculty member in the Political Science program, Centre for Social Sciences at Athabasca University.

Davina’s research and teaching interests are in the intersecting fields of critical race theory, anti-colonialism, feminist studies, contemporary theories of democracy, freedom, citizenship , sovereignty and borders. She has taught widely on critical race studies, immigration policy, security, mass incarceration, and migration studies. Davina is working on several projects involving migration, citizenship and borders.

Her current book length project examines migrant subjectivity, with a particular focus on the experience of South Asian migration from India to Canada through the early to late twentieth century, tracing the processes of becoming citizen from the place of migrant subject-hood. Her interest in migration and settlement involves understanding the continued impact of dispossession entailed in the settler-colonial lands of Turtle Island, and particularly in the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples. She looks forward to working with colleagues and students in collaboration.
