David Buchanan is a scholar of literary history and print culture from the eighteenth century to the present. His published research on transatlantic literature of the long nineteenth century focuses on the intersection of book history, the historical novel, and modernity. He has also developed interests in proletarian and popular literatures as well as an integrational approach to the study of communication. His teaching of literature and composition emphasizes literary history, material cultures, the politics of cultural production, research methodologies, reading practices, and effective communication.
