As a first generation Canadian, Cristela's parents were refugees from Argentina. Bilingual in both Spanish and English, she also grew up embracing two different cultures. Her interest in psychology began in her teenage years as she struggled with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. In university she developed an interest in couples counselling and decided to focus her graduate studies in that field. Being a part-time coach of a competitive sport, and previously being a competitive athlete herself, Cristela also has an interest in sports psychology. In addition to her work with Athabasca University Cristela is a part-time counsellor for individuals and couples in Kamloops, BC.
