Any active undergraduate or graduate student in a Faculty of Business program is eligible to apply!
You will be required to fill out a Media Consent Form.
If selected, your team will be guided by a team of expert coaches along every step of the way!
You will meet online 4-6 times between October and our practice weekend in January. The team meetings are facilitated by at least one AU-FB professor and academic expert.
In total, you can expect to spend 5-8 hours per week on developing your case competition.
The following sample schedules from previous years will give you an idea of what will be required:
To apply, you will need to submit a letter of application and a current CV.
Letter of application:
- registered name at AU and student number;
- tell us why you are interested in the competition;
- confirm you intend on being a full–time student (registered for 3 courses at the same time) for the winter semester; and
- let us know which competition(s) you are interested in.
You can apply to participate in more than one!
Current CV:
- registered name at AU and student number;
- include any work experience; and
- educational qualifications.
Please email your completed letter of application and CV to fb-dean@athabascau.ca.
No! Any AU student can participate. You have to reside in Canada to have your travel costs covered.
The days and times are arranged by mutual agreement.
There will also be some online discussion on presentations and case studies.
In January, there will be an in-person weekend session in Edmonton.
After that, the teams decide how many more case preparations they wish to do.
The practice session occurs in January from Friday to Monday.
- Friday – evening
- Saturday – all day
- Sunday – all day and
- Monday – finish at noon
The actual weekend chosen will be set by mutual agreement.
Please see here for 2019-2020 practice weekend draft schedule.
Both case competitions are normally held in March (actual dates to be confirmed). The CPA competition is in Calgary and the Alberta Deans of Business Competition is hosted by various post-secondary institutions around the province of Alberta.
AU-FB covers the cost of travel within Canada, food and accommodation. We also cover the cost of case studies and textbooks.
For full participation in the case study competition, you may register for ADMN 499 and receive three credits towards your degree. You will need to pay regular course fees. If you are interested in using your participation in the competition toward ADMN 499, please contact an AU-FB Program Advisor at the Student Support Centre to confirm if ADMN 499 can be used towards your certificate or degree. Enrolling in ADMN 499 counts towards your full-time student status.
Note you cannot receive course credit twice should you choose to reapply to join the team a second time.
