Maureen Hutchison

Maureen is a senior management professional who leads the Course Development & Production (CDP) team within the Faculty of Business. She and her team collaborate with academics, subject matter experts, and others to design, develop, produce, and deploy high quality online courses, for the benefit of our learners.

Her expertise and experience within and outside the University include leadership, strategic analysis, project management, business planning, operations management, communications (including writing, research, and editing), publishing, learning/instructional design, stakeholder management, marketing, and customer experience. She began working with Athabasca University in 2001 within the graduate business program-focused Centre for Innovative Management.

Maureen is also a professional editor and member of Editors Canada. She has contributed as a co-author on various academic-practitioner papers associated with online learning during her AU career and is a co-author of book chapters focused on online learning and project management (The Theory and Practice of Online Learning, 2nd ed.; Project Management Circa 2025). She has also served as technical editor for a Canadian Indigenous academic journal (Canadian Journal of Native Education), led by Indigenous scholars within the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta.

In her personal time, Maureen enjoys outdoor pursuits and sports, particularly running, gardening, hiking, and travel, and has a keen love of the arts, including literature and writing, fine arts, weaving, and design.
