Dr. Musila earned a Ph.D. in economics in 1998 from Dalhousie University. Prior to joining Athabasca University, he worked as an economist in Nova Scotia Department of Finance in Canada and in the Ministry of Planning and National Development in Kenya where he was involved with economic forecasting and policy analysis. Dr. Musila was a visiting scholar in the Department of Economics at Chancellor College, University of Malawi, during 1999-2000.

Dr. Musila’s research is focused on international trade, economic growth and development, and econometric modeling. He has published in several academic journals including the Economic Modelling, Journal of Policy Modeling, Journal of African Economies, Journal of African Business, Canadian Journal of Development Studies, Journal of Developing Areas, and The World Economy.

Besides teaching and research, Dr. Musila has served in several leadership roles as program director for undergraduate business programs and chair of the Economics, Finance and Operations Management Department at Athabasca University. He also served as executive secretary for African Academy of Business and Development (AABD) during 2010-2013 and AABD Conference Co-chair in 2011.
