Dr. Helen Lam joined the Faculty of Business in August 2000 after completing her PhD program in Industrial Relations / Human Resource Management (HRM) at the University of Alberta. She brought with her twelve years of HRM work experience, obtained both overseas and in Canada, in public and private sectors. Her prior academic work includes teaching HRM courses at the University of Alberta and tutoring Industrial Relations courses for the undergraduate program at Athabasca University.

Dr. Lam served as the Chair of Organizational Analysis Department within the Faculty of Business (FB) from August 2018 to June 2021. In her 20+ years at FB, she has overseen and/or taught a range of courses, including Human Resource Management, Negotiation & Conflict Management, Business Law, and Doing Business in the Asia-Pacific Region at the MBA level, as well as some HR related courses in the undergraduate and Leadership & Management Development programs.

Dr. Lam’s extensive HRM experience has allowed her to bridge the gap between theory and practice and especially in interacting with MBA students. Dr. Lam has published many journal articles on various research topics, including business ethics, employee rights and representations, employment implications in the digital era, legal issues and best practices in human resource management, and management education.

Dr. Lam retired at the end of June 2022 and is thankful to all her colleagues, students, and research collaborators who have made her academic journey a meaningful and rewarding one.
