Dr. Azevedo is an accomplished educator with over 30 years of work experience in teaching, research, curriculum development, and student supervision. Her areas of expertise include International Business/Management, EDI and Intercultural Competence, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, and Research Methodology (e.g., survey design and administration). As a consultant, Dr. Azevedo has assisted entrepreneurs and small businesses in market research, strategic planning, and business plan development.

Dr. Ana Azevedo joined the Faculty of Business at Athabasca University in October of 2010. She is currently Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Entrepreneurship and a graduate course in Management. Prior to her relocation to Canada, Dr. Azevedo was an Associate Professor in the Department of International Management at FH-Joanneum (Graz, Austria), teaching courses in Strategic Management, International Business, Quantitative Research Methods, as well as project-based courses in International Market Entry. She has also worked as a full-time faculty member at the University of Texas in El Paso and at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida.

Dr. Azevedo’s research is interdisciplinary. A central question addressed in her research is how to encourage individuals and organizations to change over time. Since 2003, Dr. Azevedo has been investigating how to promote soft skills development and work readiness in students, business leaders, and entrepreneurs. During 2016-2017, Dr. Azevedo developed a new training program in cultural intelligence (CQ), with support from a faculty colleague. In a pilot study involving MBA students and HR professionals, the researchers tested and confirmed that this program significantly increased participants’ cultural intelligence, innovative work behavior, and resilience. The CQ training program can be used to promote intercultural competence and key future skills that support inclusion and innovation. As a Brazilian citizen who has lived and worked in four countries, Dr. Azevedo has acquired first-hand experience regarding the importance of intercultural competence for individual and organizational performance. Since 2015, Dr. Azevedo has also obtained three certifications with the Cultural Intelligence Center (CQ certification [Certified CQ Facilitator], CQ Train-the-Trainer program, and Unconscious Bias Train-the-Trainer program) and one certification in learning agility with EASI Consult (Burke Learning Agility Inventory Assessment and Administration).
