Alan Franklin is Managing Director of Global Business Risk Management (Vancouver and Toronto, Canada) which engages in consulting on international business issues.

Alan also teaches and writes about international business risk management, due diligence in business, business and human rights, anti-corruption, international arbitration and diplomatic immunity law and practice. He has worked with over 300 companies in Canada which has allowed him to develop insights into issues of risk analysis and management on a practical level that are not well known nor discussed in the literature or at conferences. His unique insights have empowered him to provide consulting services to corporations, lawyers, accountants, banks and insurance companies. Most recently he has been a consultant to the African Development Bank, ASEAN, Asian Development Bank, and the Foreign Affairs Departments of a number of states.

For Athabasca University he developed and is presently teaching 2 courses: International Business: Understanding and Managing Risk and Due Diligence for their distance-learning Executive MBA program. Both of these courses are inter-disciplinary, combining law, ethics, risk management, corporate governance and international human rights issues.

Alan has been involved with the University of London LL.B. and LL.M. programs for many years, (teaching for the University of London LL.B. program in Canada) and because of the emphasis on international law courses in that program, he has developed relationships with many diplomats, particularly UN ambassadors and former ambassadors. He formed an association of former United Nations Ambassadors in New York as a not-for-profit corporation, and chairs many of their meetings. These former ambassadors (many of whom teach at various universities and colleges in the USA) have been able to provide Alan with a wealth of information on the practical aspects of international law and diplomacy.

In 2020 Alan was invited by National Institute (NIDIR) to give seminars to Cambodian Diplomats on international law, international investment law to assist Cambodian diplomats in attracting foreign investment.
