Overview
SPAN 400 reviews and further develops language skills acquired in earlier Spanish courses. The emphasis is on advanced grammatical structures and the acquisition of a more specialized vocabulary. The objective of SPAN 400 is to strengthen both written and oral skills that will enable students to communicate in a variety of contexts. Students are expected to perform simple literary analyses.
Learning outcomes
Spanish 400 has been designed using an integrated four-skill approach: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The course prepares the student to use Spanish in real-life situations by developing oral and written communication skills. By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- recognize, employ, and combine advanced grammatical structures.
- perform close readings of authentic texts in Spanish.
- identify and describe social issues facing contemporary Hispanic society.
- identify, describe, and analyse the impact of Hispanics in Canada and in the broader global context.
- link various literary expressions to sociocultural situations.
- communicate ideas using appropriate language, structure, and formats in written and oral forms.
Evaluation
Your final grade in the course will be determined based on the marks achieved for the following assignments and the final exam. To receive credit for SPAN 400, you must submit all of the assignments and write the final examination. You must achieve an overall grade of at least D (50 percent)and at least D (50 percent) on the final examination to pass the course.

Evaluation
To receive credit for the SPAN 400 challenge registration, you must achieve a grade of at least D (50 percent) on the final written examination.
