Overview
POEC 499 offers advanced students an opportunity to pursue an extended research project under the direction of a professor.
The course of study will normally include extensive library research for the production of a research proposal and a major paper with active research supervision from the professor.
This course requires professor approval, for which you need to provide the following:
- A transcript listing the courses you have successfully completed so far.
- A brief expression of interest: Within the field of Political Economy broadly defined, identify a topic or an area of investigation that you would like to examine. Submit a one- to two-paragraph statement of the problem, which should include the central question of your proposed project.
Evaluation
To receive credit for POEC 499, students must complete a research proposal as well as the essay achieving a minimum of 50 percent on each assignment, as well as a course composite grade of at least D (50 percent) or higher.

Materials
This course either does not have a course package or the textbooks are open-source material and available to students at no cost. This course has a Course Administration and Technology Fee, but students are not charged the Course Materials Fee.
