This course will not apply toward the degree requirements for the Post-RN Bachelor of Nursing program. Post-RN BN students who wish to take this course extra to degree may request professor approval.

Overview

NURS 350 reviews the basic concepts around maternal child and pediatric nursing. This course cannot cover all concepts in depth; rather, it is intended to refresh your knowledge in these areas. Learning activities are provided in each unit. The use of the interactive quizzing component is encouraged to improve experience with the testing style similar to that used by the NCLEX Next Generation exam. By the end of the course, you should have an introductory level understanding of pregnancy, maternity nursing, and pediatric nursing.

Learning outcomes

Develop knowledge in maternal child, perinatal, and pediatric nursing.
Determine the role of the nurse in meeting the needs of the maternal and child patient.
Integrate the determinants of health that influence reproductive, maternal child, and pediatric health.
Apply critical thinking skills by working through a variety of case scenarios.
Improve experience with adaptive style testing (similar to the licensure exam).

Evaluation

To receive credit for NURS 350 Maternal Child and Pediatric Nursing students must complete all the required assessments, achieve a minimum of 64% (C) on the final exam, and achieve an overall composite grade of 64% (C). The assessments and weighting of composite grades are as follows:

The final examination for this course must be requested in advance and written under the supervision of an AU-approved exam invigilator. Invigilators include either ProctorU or an approved in-person invigilation centre that can accommodate online exams. Students are responsible for payment of any invigilation fees.
