Overview
This orientation is delivered in two parts. The first five-day online part is designed to welcome students to the DBA program and to help them develop confidence in studying at the graduate level. It will also help them to become more accustomed to the Brightspace learning platform and guide them on what to expect from us, where to find information and help, their responsibilities as a student, and our learning resources, course activities, and assignments.
The second in-person part allows students to interact with new and current students and the academics they will be working with, discuss the online learning and research environment, and receive an introduction to DDBA 800.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, students should be able to
- understand their responsibilities as a student, including as outlined in the AU Student Code of Conduct,
- describe the variety of online library resources to which they will have access,
- navigate their way through the online library resources, and
- discuss preliminary concepts in relation to the professional doctoral degree.
Materials
There are no textbooks for this orientation, but students will be provided with the following referencing guide for use throughout the program:
American Psychological Association. (2020). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed., Digital version).
All other course materials will be accessed online.
Evaluation
This orientation is not graded. However, it is a mandatory non-credit course. Upon successful completion and submission of an assignment and attendance at the in-person part of this orientation, students will receive a “non-credit complete” (NCC) on their transcript.
If a student does not complete and submit the assignment but does attend the in-person part of the orientation, they will receive a “non-credit incomplete” (NCI) on their transcript but may proceed to their first course.
Students who do not attend the mandatory in-person part of the orientation will receive an "NCI" on their transcript and
will not be permitted to proceed with their first course. If you are unable to attend the in-person part of Orientation, please contact the DBA Program Director and Student Enrolment Services immediately to discuss your options.
