Meet AU’s 2024-25 Writer in Residence, Bertrand Bickersteth! As a Black writer, his work focuses on uncovering and celebrating Black history that has often been overlooked.

Bertrand is the award-winning author of The Response of Weeds and was named a Black Canadian writer to watch by @cbcbooks. This year, he’ll support writers at AU and beyond with events and one-on-one consultations.

It’s a time for listening, learning, and seeking understanding about the devastating effects of residential schools. It’s also an opportunity to learn from the stories and experiences of Indigenous students, grads, and researchers who are making a difference in their communities near and far.
