Sharpen your digital marketing skills with 4 new PowerED courses
Are you a marketing pro looking to take your career to the next level, with a little skill finessing?
Today’s digital economy is ever-evolving, meaning that digital marketers need to stay ahead of the curve to attract the right audience.
In response to the evolving needs of professionals worldwide, PowerED™ by Athabasca University (AU) has partnered with the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI) to offer four new stand-alone digital marketing courses. Facilitated by two leading industry experts, Ameet Khabra and Liz Pittman, these courses will guide students through the intricacies of digital marketing today.
“At PowerED, we recognize the pivotal role digital marketing plays in shaping the future of business and careers,” said Brock Olive, PowerED director.
“Our strategic partnership with the Digital Marketing Institute reflects our commitment to delivering industry-relevant, globally recognized education. Together, we embark on a journey to cultivate expertise, foster innovation, and pave the way for success in the dynamic realm of digital marketing.”
An engaged learning experience
The four courses include Digital Marketing Professional, Digital Marketing Specialist: Social, Digital Marketing Specialist: Strategy, and Digital Marketing Specialist: Search. Each is delivered asynchronously with the added benefit of scheduled coaching sessions with course facilitators Liz Pittman and Ameet Khabra.
“These live coaching sessions are a first for PowerED, setting a new standard in online education. We recognize the unparalleled value they bring to our learners and are committed to extending this dynamic feature to future courses,” said Olive.
The courses were created for people working in the marketing field looking to deepen their knowledge in the core areas of social media, strategy, search, and more.
Pittman, a digital marketing and communications specialist based in Victoria, B.C., said the quality and variety of content stands out, but the weekly group coaching sessions really excite her.
“Regardless of where group participants are, they can meet with us, and we’ll bring examples of what’s happening in the world and tell them what’s getting engagement online. We have this rooted grounding piece with me every week.”
Pittman works with clients across Canada in various industries to craft and execute effective social media strategies, create engaging and relevant content, and grow community engagement. She also teaches social media marketing at the University of Victoria and Assiniboine Community College.
Khabra is a digital marketing professional and currently manages a team of eight and an array of marketing campaigns for varied clients through her company, Hop Skip Media. She has refined her expertise in the field of pay-per-click advertising and has substantial experience in understanding online user behaviour and leveraging data insights to facilitate successful marketing campaigns.
“I want students to figure out what they are passionate about,” said Khabra.
“Liz is passionate about what she does, and I am passionate about what I do. I want them to be really excited to pursue their careers in digital marketing and be engaged and develop a passion right off the bat.”
Keeping up with industry trends
Both Khabra and Pittman closely follow new trends in digital marketing and frequently adapt their strategies in a field that’s constantly evolving.
Khabra said the industry is changing constantly, even more than when she started her digital marketing career more than a decade ago.
She facilitates the course on Digital Marketing Specialist: Search and said if you want to have a career in search marketing, then you have to be used to things changing constantly.
“I love change, especially when there is something new to discover or new to do. Google recently announced that they are removing third-party cookies for Chrome users and I’m happy to figure this out, but not everyone wants to solve those problems!”
Pittman facilitates both Digital Marketing Specialist: Social and Digital Marketing Specialist: Strategy.
She explained that you can’t succeed in the field without doing things strategically. With the current trend of video performing and ranking so highly on social media, that’s been a big part of strategy.
“You need to have some sort of intention behind what you’re creating and having meaningful content. Social media is my bread and butter because you can reach so many different audiences and get your story out in a creative way,” she said.

Building a foundation
Together Khabra and Pittman facilitate Digital Marketing Professional— a course recommended as a starting point for digital marketing professionals looking to advance their skills.
“I hope that they get a good foundation and strong understanding of this industry and what a position in this field entails. With that comes some confidence that’s so required in an industry like this, confidence to move ahead in their roles, workplaces, and be ready for the future,” explained Pittman.
