I returned to school after 22 years thanks to Athabasca University
Transforming Lives: Learners of AU is an ongoing series where real students and alumni share how AU’s flexible online learning model made a difference in their lives and, in turn, the communities in which they live and work. Submit your story.
I recently enrolled in Athabasca University’s Bachelor of General Studies program after 22 years of being out of school.
I am currently in my second semester with a plan to eventually graduate from the Master of Counselling program. I absolutely love the ability to go to school online while still being available to my 4 children when they need me.
Inclusive online learning
AU has an amazing, inclusive environment that provides the resources and support I needed to make the transition from full-time self-employment to full-time schooling.
It was a very difficult decision to make the plunge into this new and exciting journey, but AU has guided me every step of the way.
Our family does a lot of travelling all over Alberta and British Columbia for camping, holidays, and racing. The ability to study and take online courses from anywhere is so important!
Work-life balance
I am so happy to be able to challenge and broaden my education and skills, while also still living my dreams with my family and maintaining my business life.
I would recommend this university to anyone who needs a flexible schedule, who is balancing work and family life, and who has the desire to expand their education.
I am so excited to be on this journey and am so proud to be able to be a part of the AU community!
