Speakers

Timothy Chong, AI-Powered Transaction Monitoring: Strengthening Fraud Prevention in Real-Time & Challenges of Unethical AI Use in Financial Systems

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a double-edged sword: it empowers fraud professionals on prevention and detection but also equips financial criminals to exploit vulnerabilities in a sophisticated manner. Staying ahead of the fraud demands a deep understanding of the evolving criminal landscape. Similarly, the very tools that empower fraud professionals may inadvertently introduce unforeseen risks to organizations and society at large.

Tomothy Ching is a financial crime professional with a combination of banking, fintech and law enforcement background. He is a director in the Fintech industry.

Graham Quast, AI vs Fraud: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Protect Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

In an era when fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated, artificial intelligence is leveling the playing field for small and medium-sized businesses. This presentation explores how AI-powered tools can detect anomalies, uncover fraud patterns, and enhance forensic investigations without requiring an enterprise-sized budget. We’ll examine how businesses can proactively leverage AI to safeguard their financial health and respond to threats more effectively.

Graham Quast (CPA, CA•IFA, DIFA, CFE, CFF), is a partner in MNP’s Forensic and Litigation Support Services practice. With over a decade dedicated exclusively to forensic accounting, Graham specializes in fraud investigations, damage quantification, and financial misconduct analysis.

Dr. Levina Yuen, Navigating Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policies in Higher Education

This session will examine the emerging policies governing the use of AI in education, with a focus on the implications for accounting and distance learning. Dr. Yuen will discuss examples of how institutions, educators, and professional accounting bodies can leverage AI in innovative and responsible ways for teaching, learning, and assessment.

Dr. Levina Yuen is an associate professor of Emerging Technologies at Athabasca University. Her research explores the pedagogical and ethical implications of technology and AI use in distance education, providing valuable insights for developing responsible AI policies in higher education.
