What to know if English is not your first language
AU announces new English Language Proficiency Requirements Policy.
The English language can be quite challenging, especially if it isn’t your first language. We want to ensure that all learners get the most out of their learning experience and have the tools needed to be successful—all before even walking through our virtual doors.
Starting in spring 2021, all undergraduate learners applying to Athabasca University (AU) will be required to meet English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements. This means that learners will need to identify their first language within the online application. If it is not English, proof of ELP will be required to procced in the application process.
To help to evaluate your readiness, AU offers a free online self-assessment test. If you have not completed an English proficiency test or program with the minimum required score, you will need to. To help, AU offers an English Language Proficiency Program. This four-course program will provide you with the skills and proficiencies needed to meet English language enrolment requirements.
AU’s ultimate aim is your success, and we’re here to help. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at enrol@athabascau.ca.
