New student award system will help students find awards for which they may qualify
Students in Athabasca University (AU) programs will have better and more personalized access to awards, bursaries, and scholarships with a new student award management system.
Applications for awards with deadlines in September and October 2024 are already open in the new system. The Student Awards office and the Faculty of Graduate Studies are excited to provide an improved awards management process to improve the student experience, from application to post-award acceptance processes.
Student demographic information from AU’s Banner system will be added into the new student awards management system, allowing program students to quickly and easily identify awards and bursaries for which they may qualify.
AU is committed to removing barriers to university study including financial obstacles. A streamlined financial needs assessment tool has been developed for all AU bursaries, making them easier to access for those who need the most support.
I’m very excited about the launch of an online awards system that connects students to the awards, bursaries, and scholarships supported by our many donors and funders. Financially supporting students to reach their educational goals is one of the things that makes AU a university like no other. Angela Kuzyk, registrar and chair of the Student Awards Committee.
Donor supported awards
AU awards and bursaries are funded in a variety of ways, including through charitable donations by members of the AU community.
The new site makes it easier for award recipients to learn about the award funders who help make these awards possible—including AU itself, the Government of Alberta, and other external donors.
The site also allows donors to add profiles and pictures, so that recipients know more about the organizations and individuals funding awards, bursaries, and scholarships at AU. Students can connect with donors to send thank-you notes and pictures to donors, showing their appreciation.
