The Hub Convocation returns home to Athabasca for a celebration like no other

Athabasca University campus welcomes graduates of the Class of 2024

Athabasca University campus will be alive with laughter, excitement, joyful tears, and more than a few high fives when convocation returns to Athabasca this month.

Convocation, on June 19 and 20, marks a major milestone for the 1,950 graduates of the Class of 2024, their families, AU faculty and staff, and the entire Athabasca region.

“Every Athabasca University graduate works hard to achieve success and realize the dream of a university education. Convocation is a testament to their perseverance, creativity, and efforts over the years,” said Dr. Alex Clark, AU president. “We are so excited and thankful to celebrate with all of our graduates and their families and loved ones in our home community of Athabasca.”

This year’s class includes graduates from across Alberta, every Canadian province and territory, and learners from around the world—making for a celebration like no other. AU will bestow 1,024 undergraduate degrees and diplomas, and 902 graduate credentials to graduates.

“Your learning and experience will serve you, your families, and your communities well for years—and decades—to come,” said Byron Nelson, AU board chair. “To each graduate, congratulations on this momentous and outstanding success.”

Ceremonies at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex

Close to 2,000 people are expected to participate in the two-day festivities in Athabasca, which includes a community-wide celebration.

Ceremonies will be held at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex, next to AU campus, and start at 11:30 a.m. on both days.

Celebrations will also include a lunch and family-friendly activities on campus. The entire Athabasca community is invited to partake in the fun.

“Convocation 2024 will be a celebration like no other in AU’s home community of Athabasca,” said Clark. “I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to campus and am so grateful for the support of our team members, volunteers, community vendors, and partners.”
