Digital Design Assistant
Overview
The primary job duties for the field research assistant 1 will include working with a manuscript to design and make camera ready for publication in an unusual format for Decameron Collective, a research-creation group. This assistant will work with Dr. Armstrong and Dr. Tschofen (TMU) to prepare a specific layout design for an experimental academic publication format.
Specific activities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with text and text images
- Creating a camera ready document for publication with a top-tier journal (accepted)
- Working with Dr. Jolene Armstrong and Dr. Monique Tschofen, and liaising with journal editors and print specialists.
The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Jolene Armstrong at Athabasca University. Dr. Armstrong will provide support for the implementation required.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be responsible, attentive to deadlines, and clear and timely in communications
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to coordinate between the academic writers and the journal, and clearly communicate technical and design needs
- Computer skills are expected, including internet research, email, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Drive
- Specific application skills include Adobe, Illustrator, and other design layout software as needed
- Interest or experience working in interdisciplinary, research-creation or collaborative art projects is considered an asset
- Some experience working with design clients

The position is based in Edmonton, Alberta, but the work will be carried out remotely.
